Change Makers Robbie Earle and Kaiya McCullough help ASNY honor our 20 Under 20

The 20th Anniversary of America SCORES New York was celebrated in style at Manhattan’s iconic Angel Orensanz with the help of two incredible Change Makers, Robbie Earle and Kaiya McCullough.

Hosted by The Cooligans and Coaching for Change alumna Yasmine Sanchez, the evening honored two inspirational  athlete-activists, Earle and McCullough, as well our 20 Under 20, an impressive collection of 20 young people who were identified by staff and coaches as being makers of change on their teams, in their schools, and around their communities.

The evening kicked off with a champagne reception that featured a timeline of ASNY history since 2001 and also a prompt that encouraged guests to make change. As the Cooligans and Yasmine took the stage, dinner was served and it brought along an opportunity for everyone to learn more about ASNY’s mission through a video filmed at August’s Family Day. This was followed by a chance to hear from three of our talented 20 Under 20 poet-athletes, Edith, Karla, and Omaima, whose poems struck a powerful note for the gathered guests and can be seen below:

Executive Director Shannon Schneeman and Board Chair Edison Bardowell spoke about the importance of our landmark anniversary as well as our plans for the next decade. They were followed by the stars of the show, the 20 Under 20, who took the stage to share their hopes for the future and what change would mean to them.

Finally, our incredible Change Maker Honorees, Robbie Earle and Kaiya McCullough, joined The Cooligans and Yasmine on stage to talk about their roles as athlete activists, making change in soccer, and what they see for the future of the sport.

The evening ended with opportunities to reconnect and celebrate America SCORES New York and we couldn’t be more grateful for those who made the night such a success. A huge thanks to our sponsors and to all who attended — what a way to celebrate 20 years of ASNY!
