Coronavirus (COVID-19)

America SCORES New York's major concern is the safety of our poet-athletes, coaches, and community

With all New York City public schools closed through April 20th,

as directed by the Department of Education and to ensure the safety of our community,

America SCORES New York has suspended all events and in-person programming until further notice

Our aim is to pursue virtual learning opportunities and other support to continue to our community.

We will be hosting Instagram Live sessions for all youth at 4pm, Monday through Friday,

on our Instagram account (@AmericaSCORESNY). We will be running drills, engaging in poetry sessions,

and continue to engage our young people in this virtual manner! These sessions will also be available via Facebook (@America SCORES NY) and Youtube (AmericaSCORESNY)!

Please continue checking back here for updates as we continue to learn about COVID-19 and its spread in our area.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, ASNY staff members will:

  • Move to a virtual work environment starting Thursday, March 12, 2020. While our physical office will be closed, all staff will continue to work and business will continue as usual.

  • Continue to stay informed about all COVID-19 developments in our area.

  • Communicate all relevant information, updates, and safety policies/procedures to coaches, principals, and parents as efficiently as possible.

  • Be prepared for every potential scenario, including early dismissals, school closures, game cancellations, event cancellations, etc. should they become necessary.

  • Ensure that we prevent the spread of germs by practicing everyday preventative actions.

Upon the resumption of program,

to prevent the spread of COVID-19,

ASNY Coaches will:

  • Regularly check their email for regular updates

  • Ensure that all coaches have completed registration forms with updated emergency contact information prior to coaching

  • Ensure that all players have completed registration forms with updated emergency contact information prior to participating

  • Ensure that their students prevent the spread of germs by practicing everyday preventative actions

    • This also includes discouraging items from being shared among team members (water bottles, equipment, writing/project supplies, etc.)

    • Replacing high-fives after games with team cheers (e.g. as a group, shout "Good Game, Team Name!")

  • Give their students age-appropriate information about COVID-19. Check out this NPR cartoon and video, as well as this article.

  • Ensure that the ASNY program is a safe and supportive space for all your students to learn and grow by standing up against racism, especially as it relates to COVID-19 (check out this Teaching Tolerance resource for ways to reinforce our inclusive values in your writing and soccer practices)

During this time, ASNY families are encouraged to:

  • Ensure that you have completed a student registration form with updated emergency contact information prior to participating

  • Ensure that they prevent the spread of germs by practicing everyday preventative actions

  • Ensure that your child prevents the spread of germs by practicing everyday preventative actions

  • Give their students age-appropriate information about COVID-19. Check out this NPR cartoon and video, as well as this article.

  • Please follow us on social media @AmericaSCORESNY and stay tuned for virtual learning and exercises!

Thanks in advance for your continued support in this effort.
